One of the top experts on Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection is Dr. Gary Habermas. He doubted God for 10 years and searched for evidence to see if there was evidence for Jesus’ resurrection.
Below are 12 historical facts, which he calls “The Minimal Facts.” These are facts that even critical non believing experts in their field agree to. When I say experts I mean historians, theologians, philosophers, etc.
These facts can be helpful when you are opposed by people who claim Jesus was a myth or a recycled story from the Persian god, Mithrus. Also, these facts are corroborated by evidence and accepted by scholars.
1.) Jesus died by crucifixion.
2.) He was buried.
3.) Jesus’ death caused the disciples to despair and lose hope.
4.) The tomb was empty.
5.) The disciples experienced seeing what they said were appearances of the resurrected Jesus.
6.) The disciples were transformed from doubters to bold Christians, proclaiming the good news.
7.) The resurrection was the central message.
8.) The disciples preached the message of Jesus’ resurrection in Jerusalem.
9.) The church was born and grew.
10.) Orthodox Jews who believed in Christ made Sunday their primary day of worship.
11.) James was converted to the faith when he saw the resurrected Jesus.
12.) Paul was converted to the faith.
